This is somewhat of a different post, one of which has nothing to do with Trey, myself, or Bryce. As I was eating breakfast this morning and watching the news, I was struck by a newstory that got my pregnancy panties in a wad. The story was about a woman whose car was broken into last night by theives and all they stole was her Bible. The woman was pleading that they bring it back to her because it was sentimental. She did not care about the $145.00 it was going to cost her to fix her window, but that these terrible men would steal her Bible was just awful.
Now, YES, I do agree, they should not have broken into her car, but of all things to take a BIBLE. How AWESOME is that? What a blessing. It is clear that these men need the word of God in their lives. And, as followers of Christ, isn't our calling to give the shirt off of our back? I hate to use the 90's phrase, but..."What would Jesus do?" He would give them His Bible, his shirt, and turn water into wine and feast with them and pray for them.
I can not lie, I would be devastated if someone stole my Bible. It was given to my by my mother when I was baptized in the 6th grade. I have highlighted, dated, underlined, and written in it like a mad woman. I love looking back on things that I read in high school, that I dated with who preached on it, and what I was going through at that time. It is the 1st belonging I would grab on my way out of my house if there was a fire (Of course I would make sure Trey and Bryce are with me, as well). However, if someone stole my Bible out of my car...wow, how cool is that? God is clearly working in one of His mysterious ways and who am I to get in the way.
To say to the theives to bring it back because it is sentimental is just dumbfounding to me! I am sure that Jesus' life was sentimental when He laid it down for us. Can you imagine Him saying, "God, I will pay whatever, just let me have my life?" I think what this woman needs to be saying on public television is, "Theives, thank you for stealing my Bible and if you would like any more reading material, come back...I will leave it in my car for you to steal, as well. If you would like to go to church or talk about anything you read, give me a call." That is what Jesus would do.
Thanks for listening to me rant (or reading my rant). I am not sure that I normally would write about something like this...maybe it is the pregnancy hormones. I just wanted to speak my opinion.
Love,
Melissa
